Helping Kids Make Memories at Summer Camp

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Some of your best memories growing up probably happened at summer camp. It’s a fun time in a child’s life, but some families can’t afford the expenses of the experience.

Diane Zeigafufe works in the Pocono Family YMCA’s Child Care Program. She’s heartbroken some of these kids may not go to summer-camp because their families can’t afford it.

“Everyone should have a chance to go to camp if they want to,” Diane Zeigafufe, Child Care Aide, says.

The Y’s Executive Director, Jodi Perry-Petrozak, says you can help by simply downloading a gift card app called ‘Dlyte’.

“You purchase your product as you normally would. It costs you nothing. But as a benefit, you chose us as your charity of choice and a percentage goes back to the YMCA and it helps send a kid to summer camp,” Perry-Petrozak explains.

Using the app is simple. All you have to do is load your credit card information, select the store you’re at, select an amount of money to load, and scan it at the cash register.

It’s an alternative to paying with cash or swiping your card at the store. And you don’t have to spend more than you already do, you’re just spending in a different way.

“Amazon, Wegmans, they’re all on there. Home Depot, Lowes, Dicks,” says Perry-Petrozak.

Perry-Petrozak says more than half of the 3 to 16 year olds need financial assistance to attend camp this summer.

She adds, “they would otherwise have to sit home instead of having fun with their friends.”

Back on the playground, Diane says these kids would really appreciate your support.

“They need to be around other children to grow,” she explains.

The YMCA in Stroudsburg hopes to raise $10,000 dollars.
