HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) The Hazleton Little League Challenger Division team is gearing up for their chance to shine at the Little League World Series this weekend.
Out of ten countries and more than 900 teams around the world Hazleton and Evansville, Indiana will be playing each other in the Little League Challenger Division Exhibition Game.
Eyewitness News stopped by Hazleton’s practice Wednesday evening to catch them before they head off to South Williamsport Friday. 23 players head to Lycoming County are ready to play ball!
“I was so excited, I feel like this was a honor just to be with these kids,” said Carlos Cespedes a Catcher.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to go. We’re going to get a little bit of practice. We’re going to get ready for this Saturday morning,” said Brett Evancho, first baseman.
“Our Challenger Division is the heart and sole of Hazleton Little League. So, it is a great of honor as a little league can have,” said Ed Shoepe, President of Hazleton Little League.
Looking sharp and clean Brett and Carlos and their teammates got professional pictures taken before signs of sliding, diving and scoring shows on their uniforms. The team leaves Friday and Eyewitness News will be there for their departure to South Williamsport. The Exhibition Game starts at 10:30 on Saturday.
