MOUNTAIN TOP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/ WYOU)- It’s a trip down memory lane for a former high school marching band. Long past their school days, they held a 25th anniversary reunion tonight.
The Hanover Area Marching Band of 1993 to 1996 relived their glorious moments together as a musical unit.
“I was approached to carry cymbals and it changed my life,” Georgia Wuorio, former Hanover Area Band Member said.
Everyone from band members, their family and the former band director, Joseph Baranoski met at King’s Restaurant in Mountain Top to reflect 25 years later.
“You guys gave us your heart and soul and really brought the magic to life,” Ed Teleky, who arranged the music for the band said.
This table covered in pictures, along with the trophies and plaques brought everyone back to the days when the band won 3 Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships.
Aside from the trophies and the accomplishments the former students say they learned lessons in band that they will keep with them for the rest of their lives.
“You learn discipline. You learn how to follow orders. You learn how to work as a team. And it’s those qualities that help you succeed no matter what you do,” Wuorio said.
Bobby Jones got his start with the band at 18 years old as the visual director. He’s moved on to be a visual designer for others and a nationally renowned judge for competitions.
“This is my education. This was my college. It was my undergraduate. It was my masters degree. It was my doctorate and it was all because of you guys,” Jones said.
This couple was in the same band back in 1948. They were high school sweet-hearts who met through the band. They came to the reunion after reading about it in the paper.
“It’s just impressive to be here, and realize how great it has been from the day back in the 40s to 1996,” Jack Wolfkeil, a 1948 band member said.
