Wilkes-Barre Township, Luzerne County — Spirit Halloween features just about every costume you can imagine — from the frightening to the funny. But something that’s downright scary can be looking for your favorite and finding it’s no longer in stock. “This last two weeks here is when everything explodes,” said store manager Anthony Badamo.
He and his staff at the Route 309 site have seen a shopping rush for many of the traditional costume kings. “I see a lot of Ninja Turtles. Batman, Superman anything superhero related.” Princess costumes are also a perennial costume favorite. But one particular costume proved to be the hardest to keep in stock — Disney’s “Descendants”. “That’s been the one that has outsold everything. That… we get it off the trucks, it goes on the wall. We turn around after putting it up and its gone,” said Mr. Badamo.
Other top sellers include anything Star Wars. There was also a rush of prehistoric proportions for Jurassic Park. Trying to find a dinosaur-themed costume is proving to be tough for just about anyone.
Kathryn Spencer of Nanticoke looked to put the head-banging into her Halloween. She and her husband want to go as a couple of bandmates from “Guns N Roses”. “I’m going as Axl Rose. My husband is going as Slash,” she said. It’s something different, you know, bring back the ’80s.”
Angelo Tolotti of Weston is going to a Halloween party with his girlfriend, Dona Malady. He never thought he’d be back in a Halloween costume after a more than four decades drought. “No, not really. I never planned on doing this type of thing again.”
Perhaps Laura Spetz of Hazleton said it best when she explained why she’s getting her 10-month-old daughter, Lucia, dressed up as a cute little monster called “Pinky Winky”. “It’s a nice tradition to go out and do the costumes with the kids and memories… making memories. That’s what it’s all about.”
Spirit Halloween says it got its last delivery of costumes but they may still be able to get you the one you want. To find out how, click here.
