Guilty Verdict Reached in Rogers Trial

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) A jury in Monroe County has decided the fate of a woman accused of shooting and killing her boyfriend in a cult connected murder.

Barbara Rogers was found guilty of third-degree murder in the July 2017 death of Steven Mineo.

The jury began deliberating around 1 PM this afternoon.

After asking the judge a series of questions over the course of several hours including the difference between first and third-degree murder the definition of beyond a reasonable doubt  and suggestions for resolving a deadlock a jury found Barbara Rogers guilty of third-degree murder.

She was on trial for killing her boyfriend, Steven Mineo inside their Coolbaugh Township home in July 2017.

Rogers told investigators Mineo asked her to hold a gun to his head and pull the trigger.

Detectives believe the couple belonged to an online alien cult.

Rogers says the cult turned on her calling her a witch and that’s why Mineo wanted her to kill him.

Mineo’s mother, Donna, told me she was hoping for a first-degree murder verdict while defense attorney Richard Galloway says this case isn’t over yet.

“It does give me some closure, it does, but I will have a broken heart until the day I die. He was my baby.

We’re disappointed that they convicted her of murder in the third degree. We think there are some viable appeal issues that we’re going to pursue! Galloway said.

Rogers was denied bail and a sentencing date is scheduled June 10th.

Before the trial started Rogers turned down a plea deal for third-degree murder.
