(WBRE/WYOU-TV) It’s the beginning of a new era in Wilkes-Barre.
A ground-breaking took place for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District’s new high school.
The new site is between Maffett and South Main Streets in Plains Township.
The decision on this location has been controversial in the past with some expressing concerns over this site.
Now that the groundbreaking is taking place all three district high schools will be consolidated for the 20-21, 20-22 school year.
“A future where we will have state of the art classrooms to pursue their dreams and fulfilling our hopes of building the greatest workforce in the history of Northeast Pennsylvania. Out of many ones. One school, one bright future, for the students of the Wilkes-Barre School District,” Said Senator John Yudichak who spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Meyers, GAR, and Coughlin will all combine under a new identity with a new nickname — the Wolfpack!
