Going for the Gold: Most Decorated Athletes

(WBRE/WYOU)  In the history of the summer Olympics, the united states has won 24-hundred medals.
…easily the most of any country…
And more than double the amount of who’s in second place…The Soviet Union, which last existed in 1991…
“There’s nothing better than putting the stars and stripes on and wearing that American flag across your cap.”

Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time.
But with or without him, the u-s would still be dominant in the pool.
Americans have won 520 medals in swimming…Or roughly 22-percent of the country’s summer Olympic total.
Believe it or not, the u-s is even better in track and field than it is in swimming.
It’s won 767 Olympic medals in that sport…32-percent of its summer total…
“The U.S. Has such great history in track and field and i think we all feel really proud to be able to represent our country.” Said Allyson Felix

     In basketball…Go back 20 years.
The only time the u-s didn’t win gold was 2004.
That includes the men and women…

“We play against the best every day in practice…Our second five team is the second best team in the world.” noted Candace Parker, two time Olympic Champion,

There are sports, though, where the u-s does not do well.
Americans have never won Olympic medals in handball, badminton, nor table tennis…
Don’t forget Jasmine Brooks will be covering the Summer Olympics for Eyewitness News.
