BROOKLYN TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The time is now to register for Girl Scout Summer Camp. And the 2nd oldest Girl Scout Camp in the country is ready for a summer of fun in Susquehanna County. Photojournalist Joe Butash checked out beautiful Camp Archbald.

“Camp Archbald is the 2nd oldest, still operating, Girl Scout Camp in the country. We will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary next year, in 2020,” Pat Acker, Camp Archbald Girl Scout Volunteer said. “We’re very excited that this summer there will be two weeks of resident, or sleepover camp, here at Camp Archbald. One week will be from July 7th to the 12th. The second will be July 14th to the 19th. And its open to all girls from ages 6 to 18.”

“The experience and the programming that they get at Girl Scouts and at Girl Scout Camp is something that they can’t get anywhere else,” Jessica Mislinski, Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Membership Coordinator said. “We can provide all of these experiences for girls in a safe, all-girl environment. And it gives them an opportunity to develop their leadership skills. To learn about themselves. To learn about the world around them. it’s absolutely amazing and breathtaking. When you first drive on to camp, you can’t help but notice the lake. And I’ve been here very early in the morning, and have been able to see the sun come up, and it is just a peaceful, beautiful place where you surround yourself by nature and lots of awesome places to explore.”
