Girl Scouts collect suitcases for foster kids

SWEET VALLEY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some Girl Scouts in Luzerne County came up with a creative way to give back to children who are less fortunate.

Three years ago, Brandon’s Forever Home partnered with Luzerne County Children and Youth to help stop the practice of giving foster children a garbage bag to use as a suitcase.

Thanks to people like the Girl Scouts from Sweet Valley, the non-profit organization in Hazleton has been able to give every child a bag for their belongings.

The thoughtful fifth graders started a donation drive to support the 500 foster children in Luzerne County.

The Girl Scouts are collecting new or gently used backpacks, tote bags, and suitcases for Brandon’s Forever Home until the end of the month.
