Girl Collects Books For Hospital Patients

NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Schuylkill County girl’s summer project is capturing hearts across northeastern Pennsylvania.

9-year-old Kasandra Gaizick and her 7-year-old sister Madelyn collected more than 600 books for kids staying at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as part of the Reach Out and Read Program.

The fourth grader from North Union Township wanted to do something to keep busy over the summer.

Kasandra also sold shopping passes at Boscov’s and raised more than $1,300 to buy toys for the kids.

Kasandra and her family are driving to Philadelphia on Friday morning to drop off the donations.  They will also take a tour of the hospital.
