‘Fun Fest’ ahead of school year

DIMOCK TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) Grab your notebooks, pencils and highlighters school will soon be back in session. 

But, before the first day of school it’s nice to meet your elementary teachers. Elk Lake Elementary School held their first ‘Fun Fest’ where hundreds of students and their families got to meet their teachers.

In Previous years teachers would only meet with parents. They thought they would change it up this year. 300 backpacks, kindle fires, school supplies and more were all donated. 

“If you’re nervous it will make you more comfortable knowing that Elk Lake is a great school and you do not have to be worried about coming to school,” said Gina Warnero, sixth grader. 

“This is a great icebreaker just to separate you to let, you know, that school is coming soon,” said Cohen Orlandini, fifth grader. 

“Come into school they will be like ‘oh we saw you Thursday night oh it was awesome!’ and thanks for the popcorn, you know the games,” said Elementary School Counselor, Lindsey Williams. 

Elk Lake teachers wanted to make sure very child feels prepared and good about the school year ahead, despite their economic status. 

They say the school is more than a place of learning and Thursday night’s event can’t be measured on any statewide testing.
