In case you haven’t heard the Eyewitness News Team won three Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Awards. On Monday, several of us attended the luncheon at the Hotel Hershey.
Jayne Ann Bugda, Tim Haberski, Rod Jackson and Crystal Cranmore won for Outstanding TV documentary, ‘Hidden History Honoring Black History Month’. Promotions Director Rebecca Stitzer won a PAB for outstanding promotional announcement ‘Winter Challenge’. And Eyewitness Sports A.J.Donatoni, Robin Deehan, Joe Garrison and Rich Charneski won for Outstanding Coverage of a local sporting event MLB Little League Challenge.

**Eyewitness News Kristina Shalhoup will be with the Students enrolled in SHINE of Luzerne County at Wilkes University on Saturday, May 11! The youngsters will cap their year by competing in a STEM Olympiad. Challenges at the event will build on skills learned in the STEAM curriculum the students have worked with during the school year at the after-school centers. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Wilkes University’s Arnaud C. Marts Center, 292 S Franklin St, Wilkes-Barre. Kristina is one of the judges! She will be joined by Rhonda Rabbitt, dean of the School of Education at Wilkes University, Robert Taylor, faculty of practice and chair of engineering at Wilkes University and Matthew Nicholas, mechanical engineer with Power Engineering
And speaking of SHINE! The SHINE after-school program will be the topic of Sunday’s Newsmakers. Jayne Ann Bugda and Andy Mehalshick are the hosts of Newsmakers. They will have as their guests Carol Nicholas, Director SHINE Luzerne County, Rachel Miller-Strucko, Director SHINE Carbon/Schuylkill Counties, and Senator John Yudichak. The panel will discuss the SHINE Program and its many projects. The after-school program using the project based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum and is very successful. Senator Yudichak will talk about his strong support for the program and the recent book he co-authored to help benefit the program. The program airs Sunday, May 12 at 6:30 am on WYOU and on May 19 at 11:30 am on WBRE.

*A Family Fun Night will be held at the Hilton in Scranton, Saturday, May 11 to benefit the St. Jude Research Hospital. Doors open at 6:30 pm
*Relay for Life of the Anthracite Region will celebrate with a “Block Party on the Hill” on Saturday, May 11th from 11 a.m.- 11 p.m. at Tamaqua Area High School Stadium.
