STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – A clinic that provides services for sexually transmitted diseases is getting ready to hit the road.
Novus ACS is launching a mobile care unit to make free STD and HIV testing accessible to everyone.
The mobile unit will make its big debut this weekend at an LGBTQ resort called ‘The Woods Campground’ in Lehighton, Carbon County.
The 20-foot medical facility on wheels will travel throughout Pennsylvania.
“So if they can’t come to us, we’re coming to them,” says Benny Vukaj, Public Relations/Marketing Manager, Novus ACS.
The mobile unit will provide the same services offered at the clinic. That includes free STD and HIV testing, plus the ‘Prep’ pill for HIV prevention. “And we have that available with or without insurance for little to no cost,” Vukaj adds.
The medical provider says this is a great asset for anyone who doesn’t have transportation to visit the actual office.
Novus is working to identify different places where the mobile unit will be parked.
“So any organization or event that has a population that might use our services, we would like to be a part of it,” Vukaj explains.
Novus ACS got its start in Bethlehem, Northampton County.
Last August, the organization expanded to Stroudsburg after renovating the former Planned Parenthood near Courthouse Square. Since then, the Stroudsburg location has served about 900 patients. Many are from low income or the LGBTQ community.
“We’ve gotten a great feedback from the community,” Vukaj adds.
