KINGSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Leaders held a grand opening for the recently expanded Patrick Solano Environmental Education Center at Frances Slocum State Park.
“This building will really serve the youth of this area and open their eyes to the environment and to the outdoors,” said Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The expansion of the center started in 2015 and cost about $2 million. The old facility was outdated, with very little storage space. Classroom space was also limited. Outdoor lessons had to be cut short if there was inclement weather.
Officials also officially dedicated the building to Solano, who once served as the deputy secretary for parks and forests.
“It’s an honor. This is a gorgeous facility and it’s in the best interest of the children in this region,” said Solano.
