North Branch Township, Wyoming County, (WBRE/WYOU) – Residents are in shock after a home on State Route 4010 exploded late Tuesday night.

James Copp woke up to what he described as “a loud bang” at 10:23 p.m. Tuesday.

“It just sounded like a car door slamming in a close proximity,” he said.

However, not an hour later, he received a call from his father telling him fire trucks were rushing Copp’s way. That’s when he discovered what had happened just a mile and a half from his home.

Four people, including two young children, were inside the two story home when it exploded. Everyone survived the incident and are being treated at area hospitals. Their condition is unknown at this time.

“Unbelievable,” neighbor Jim Stodderd said. “I thought they would have all been killed.”

He was one of many people coming to assist in the clean-up of State Route 4010 Wednesday morning. Upon arriving he thought, “worst thing I’ve ever seen. It looks like a missile hit it.”

There is no word on what caused this explosion, but a fire marshal out of Towanda continues to investigate.
