SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- The Scranton School District has a change of heart after making some program cuts.

It was originally announced that middle schoolers would not have music or gym classes on their schedule in the next school year. That changed Thursday night.

School Board President Barbara Dixon told Eyewitness News the district decided to put those classes back in the curriculum. The cuts had been part of a major financial crisis in the district that led to 51 teachers getting furloughed.

Right now, Scranton School District still finds itself almost $4 million in the hole.
