KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters faced bitter cold temperatures battling a fire in Kingston Friday morning.
They were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m.
It was initially reported someone may have been inside the Chester Street home, but firefighters did not find anyone inside. They later learned from neighbors the home was vacant and the home owners moved about a month ago.
One of the more dangerous aspects is the brutal cold firefighters are facing. Patches of water have frozen on the road making it slick. Crews have set up a rehab station rotating firefighters in and out so fire fighter fatigue doesn’t set in.
No injuries have been reported.
The Kingston fire chief says he believes the fire may have started in the basement. A state police fire marshal will be brought in to investigate.
