Fire Crews Busy Battling Brush Fires

News

(WBRE/WYOU-TV) The persistent dry weather making perfect conditions for brush fires.

Firefighters are working around the clock battling this fire in Newport Township.

As you can see, it’s a hellish scene as firefighters work their way to the blaze.

Not only are more than two dozen firefighters working overtime to put it out, but they are also dealing with rugged and sometimes dangerous conditions.

New crews are replacing others with the hopes of preventing injuries. So far they’ve been successful.

“We have a lot of dangerous coal areas, we have possibly open mine shaft pits, which has to be contained, we just make sure everybody’s safe and comes home tonight,” Said Jack Zborovian, Fire Supervisor DCNR Bureau of Forestry.

A helicopter airlifted water to the scene a short time ago.

Precipitation expected tomorrow will help firefighters get the upper hand.
