FBI Now Involved In The Investigation Of Fire Death Of Luzerne County Woman

The FBI is now looking into the 2014 fire death of 51 year old  Laurie Merritt in Wilkes-Barre–She was found unconscious in the attic of her Wyoming Street home–she died at the hospital an hour later– A State Police Fire Marshal determined the fire was intentionally set but there has not been any determination if the death was homicide or suicide– Merritt’s family and friends insist she would never take her own life and believe she died at the hands of another person- Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis told the I-team, “I can say the FBI is now part of a task force we set up –this is a very unique case and we are actively working this– We recently did interviews and are urging people to come forward if they have any information– ” Salavantis confirmed the FBI is focusing on the cell phone of Laurie Merritt, “I can say it has been difficult to get information off the cell phone that we have–that’s all I can say right now-” Investigators served a search warrant on Merritt’s ex-boyfriend last year–he has not been accused of any wrong doing and attempts to obtain comment from him  at the time were unsuccessful– Merritt’s daughter Kristin Merritt talked with this reporter in April on the one year anniversary of her mother’s death, she said, “We urge anyone with information to come forward–Her granddaughter will never see her grandmother–it’s been tough–“
