PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County family is speaking out in the hopes of getting answers as to what led to the shooting of their 14-year-old loved one.

Owen Brown was shot inside an apartment in Plymouth on Saturday. He’s now fighting for his life at a trauma center.

His aunt, Jill Brown, tells Eyewitness News I-Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick he is a fighter and is holding his own. He remains in critical condition and she says the family is by his bedside.

She also made an emotional plea Thursday. They are seeking answers and justice for Owen.

“It’s just tearing us apart. There’s no other words. It’s an absolute living a living nightmare,” said Jill.

That’s how Jill describes what the family has been going through since last Saturday night when her nephew 14-year-old Owen Brown was shot inside an apartment at Rear 72 Franklin Street in Plymouth.

“I wish I had an idea. I wish I knew something. So, the majority of the information we are finding out from the media. It’s terrifying to read these things we have been reading,” Jill said.

According to a state police search warrant affidavit, the shooting happened at around 6 pm Saturday.

When officers arrived on scene, Owen was on the living room floor with a gunshot to the head. An empty 9-millimeter shell casing was near his body.

Four other people, including two other teens and an adult, were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. She says her nephew deserved better.

“Owen’s a good boy with a really good heart. You know he loves his sister. He plays with his little sister. My daughter, he’s not just a cousin. He’s their big brother,” Jill explained.

“What do you want to say to those who may have information that could be key to finding out what happened here?” Mehalshick asked.

“Yes, I want people to say something. I don’t want you to have fear. I want you to be strong like my nephew. I want you to go against all the things you may think you should be doing and you should be saying ‘I want to stand for Owen.’ I want to speak for Owen because he can’t speak for himself,” Jill replied.

The State Police, Plymouth Police, and Luzerne County Detectives are investigating the shooting. They say the case is moving forward.

We do know that they served a search warrant seeking cell phone records of anybody who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting and, according to that same search warrant, one of the teens in the apartment at the time is a known gang member.
