Edwardsville Pierogi Festival under fire

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Temperatures are boiling after a popular pierogi festival has become the target of legal trouble.

A chamber of commerce from the midwest is threatening a trademark infringement lawsuit.

The Edwardsville Hometown Committee received a letter from lawyers in Whiting, Indiana — 679 miles away from the borough of Edwardsville.

Organizers of the Whiting Pierogi Fest are demanding the hometown committee to stop using the trademarked name or pay the price.

Several local lawyers are coming together to help the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival.

Attorney and Mayor of Kingston Jim Haggerty told Eyewitness News they filed a preemptive suit in federal court in Scranton.

He called Whiting, Indiana’s case “meritless” because Edwardsville doesn’t even use the term “pierogi fest”.
