STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – On a dull and gloomy day, a pop of color is brightening spirits.
“Actually, it is a lot of fun to be honest with you,” smiles Sean Smith, Senior.
East Stroudsburg University students are painting storefronts throughout Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg. It’s part of the University’s Homecoming celebration.
Smith adds, “it gives us a good opportunity to help out local businesses in the area and just reach out to meet new people.”
One group is painting a vintage cinema on Renegade Winery’s windows. Across the street, a painting of ET fits in seamlessly at Pocono Bike Company. Down the block, a new window display is under construction outside the De Novo Clothing Exchange.
Students say a lot of planning goes into these designs. It’s a learning experience, even for the seasoned art majors.
“I’d say I’m not the best artist, but I’ve been improving in my art and I’ve realized it while helping this,” says Clayton Masarjian, Junior.
Every year there’s a different Homecoming theme. This time around it’s ‘Hollywood’. The Godfather is coming to life at Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitter on Main Street.
“It gives a new look to the town for a short period of time. And they put their heart and soul into it. It’s wonderful,” smiles Jere Dunkelberger, Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitter.
Transforming a dull day into a colorful one.
A committee will judge the window displays next week. The winning business gets a plaque and the winning student designer takes home a gift card.
East Stroudsburg University’s Homecoming celebrations run from October 19th to the 22nd.
