OLD FORGE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY  (WBRE/WYOU)  The search for a missing businessman in Lackawanna County is intensifying tonight.    Roughly 50 State Troopers did a coordinated search today in Old Forge — looking for Robert Baron who has been missing for more than a week.

A drone hovered above the Lackawanna River near South Main Avenue in Old Forge Thursday.
As police continue to search for Robert Baron – they got a helping hand from Pennsylvania State Police and crews from northeast search and rescue.

“The drone is nice because we can get below the trees as opposed to a full-sized helicopter. It’s safer to fly it, it’s way cheaper to fly it and we can actually get a much better view of it.” said Bruce Barton, Chief, of Northeast Search and Rescue

While the drone was in the area, four search dogs also scoured the river banks looking for clues…While roughly 50 troopers did a coordinated grid search in the area of Pagnotti Park.
While this is the most visible effort by law enforcement yet – crews have been doing searches every day.

“We have conducted searches of businesses, numerous residences, we’ve conducted dozens of interviews. We’ve executed search warrants. We’ve obtained court orders.” said Lackawanna County District Attorney Shane Scanlon.

Robert Baron was last seen last Wednesday night dropping his son off at a home in Old Forge, near his restaurant Ghigiarelli’s.

His car was later discovered, and state police were back looking at it Thursday.

According to a search warrant return, investigators have taken soil, blood and hair samples from the vehicle as the investigation continues.
In the community – people certainly noticed the large effort Thursday.

“It’s good to see some good action going on and maybe they can pinpoint it — it’s a shame.” said Business Owner Jackie Bower.
