Dog Caught on Camera Killing Cat Returns to Shelter

SHAMOKIN, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A dog that was caught on camera brutally attacking and killing a cat in Northumberland County has been taken back into custody by an animal shelter.

Back in April, 17-year-old Shatiq Crum and his friend Timothy Tyler were charged after investigators said the pair allowed the dog to brutally attack and kill a man’s cat in Shamokin.

Phoenix Rescue Group was caring for the dog named Edgar, formerly known as Tank, until Tuesday when a court order gave custody to a third party chosen by Crum’s mother.

It wasn’t long before a photo surfaced on Crum’s Facebook page, showing him interacting with the dog.

Crum’s actions caused the judge to issue another court order Wednesday for the third party to return the dog to the animal shelter, so the officers went back for him.

Edgar has a long road to recovery because the dog is being treated for heartworms.

The rescue group still needs another court order to get full ownership of the dog.

Officers told Eyewitness News they hope he has a new home by January, and they already received at least six adoption applications so far.
