Detectives return to Old Forge in Robert Baron disappearance

Baron has been missing for 16 months

OLD FORGE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - It has now been 16 months since a restaurant owner in Old Forge went missing.

Police and detectives from the Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office continue to investigate what happened to Robert Baron and they were out again Wednesday with a very visible presence.

It was January 25, 2017 that Robert Baron was last seen dropping of his son after leaving his restaurant, Ghigarelli's in Old Forge.

The next day, Baron was reported missing and detectives say they found blood and a tooth inside the business and the 59-year-old was never heard from again.

Old Forge police and members of the Lackawanna County DA's Office spent Wednesday morning outside Ghigarelli's restaurant in Old Forge.

They took new pictures and looked around as the investigation into the disappearance of Robert Baron continues now into its 16th month.

"It was very interesting to see them showing up today and walking around and going over everything," Michelle Klimek of Old Forge said.

After spending at least a half-hour outside the restaurant, investigators moved to an apartment building in the 400-block of Sussex Street.

This is where Robert Baron's son has an apartment.

Crews spraypainted a "T" by a water main, took more pictures outside the building and even walked along a dirt path through some brush.

"I'm hopeful that they have some kind of new evidence especially that would help the family have some closure," Klimek said.

The third stop brought crews to an alley behind the UPS Store on Main Street. That was followed by stops and pictures on Foundry Street, Connell Street and Elio Ghigharelli Drive which are all within about one to two miles from each other.

"We miss him. We think about him every day!" Linda Tomlinson said.

Linda Tomlinson owns a flower shop right next to Baron's restaurant.

She just wants there to be closure.

"Everyday we'd bump into him in the back yard and we miss those conversations and just his friendliness," Linda Tomlinson said.

Wednesday's police activity certainly caused commotion, injecting new life into an investigation that has faded from the headlines.

"Everybody's got their own opinions as to why it happened so it would be nice to get the case solved," Barry Miller of Old Forge said.

There is still a $10,000 reward being offered for anyone with information on the disappearance of Robert Baron.

Anyone with information should call the Old Forge Police Department or Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office.
