HARVEYS LAKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It’s the “unofficial” start of the holiday season in a Luzerne County community.
Grotto Pizza in Harveys Lake has put on this Parade of Trees for the past 23 years.
More than two dozen businesses each choose a charity to support and then decorate a tree during this celebration at the restaurant.
People who visit Grotto Pizza before New Year’s Eve can vote for their favorite tree by making a donation to that charity.
Bel Air Pools and Excavating created a realistic “beating heart” to light up their tree representing pediatric cardiology at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
“We love to help the children,” said Courtney Shatrowskas. “It’s really about the children. We bring our kids here to help decorate the tree.”
The Parade of Trees has raised a total of more than $240,000 since the beginning. This year the founder of Grotto Pizza is donating $25,000 from his charitable foundation.
