DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY(WBRE/WYOU-TV) – It’s a day of firsts for many children at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
“They’re excited they have something different to break up their day and they look forward to it,” said Nurys Zepherin of Carbondale.
“This gives them an opportunity to be kids. To be normal to have fun get out of their rooms and just do something exciting while they’re here,” said Certified Life Specialist, Ashley Broschart.
“To get fresh air and to see other people,” said Brandon Conaway.
Including a first for Darci Lynne.
“I’ve never been to Pennsylvania so this is pretty cool,” said 2017 America’s Got Talent Winner, Darci Lynne.
The superstar put on a performance for the children, along with her sidekick puppet, “petunia”.
“I’m just really excited to be here and i love all the kids it’s so much fun,” said Petunia.
At least 20 patients were given puppets of their own, so they could be a part of the special show.
“It’s really special to me to just see them come out of their shell and really just be excited and just bloom,” said Broschart.
Parents say this is exactly what the kids needed, after spending countless days in the hospital.
“Difficult. This is one of several times that has been through this and so it’s taxing on him and the family as well,” said Zepherin.
“Braelyn had to have surgery on Friday to replace her shunt,” said Tanya Strasburger.
“It’s fun to get back and to see all of them and make them happy for at least one day throughout their hard times here at the hospital,” said Lynne.
It’s been a once in a lifetime experience, for everyone at the hospital.
“This is something not only enjoyable for him but for me as well,” said Zepherin.
“It’s a good thing it’s a good feeling,” said Strasburger.
