SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Bitterly cold temperatures are settling right on top of northeastern and central Pennsylvania. The intense cold can be dangerous.
In Scranton, the dangerous cold is causing a lot of problems. Some people who are looking for a place to stay warm are turning to the Keystone Mission.
“Our typical client has no where else to stay. By the time they get here, they’ve already been out hours in the cold. We try to warm them up and give them some soup and coffee and sandwiches and stuff,” Keystone Mission Manager Tommy Hill said.
Due to the extreme cold, Keystone Mission opened early on Monday and they are going to be staying open later for their guests to stay warm.
Tthe thing is we can dress warm with our face and our hands, but we’re still susceptible to frost bite. It’s dangerous out there,” Hill explained.
The Keystone Mission tells Eyewitness News that they are in need of sleeping bags, blankets, and coats.
