Dangerous New Trend on the Road

Williamsport, Lycoming County- It’s the craze that’s sweeping social media… Where drivers take a picture of themselves, a selfie,  while on the road… And post it online.

Many have seen first hand… The pictures on insta-gram… Twitter… And Facebook.
The easiest way to tell if it’s a driving selfie is the background.

The images in the background are  blurred like they were moving.

The growing trend is forcing safety experts to warn drivers and prospective Selfiers, once more about the dangers of distracted driving.
“Our cell phones and taking pictures and  and going on instagram… Drunk driving it all fits in the same category.” said Sherrie Sargent of the South Williamsport AAA

Because  if drivers are on their phones, it means they aren’t paying attention to the road and  risk of getting in an accident.

“I know what it’s like to post a picture on facebook and its like how are they doing this! I mean nobody is safe if people out there are driving this way.” added Sargent

Unhappy fellow drivers agree. They don’t feel safe knowing that the driver next to them could be using a phone.
“I don’t want to be riding around in a little wheelchair because someone was using their phone.” said Richard Kirby of Williamsport

While others, like Emily Weaver of Williamsport say that selfie can wait until later.
“I see maybe the necessity of texting — this is literally just taking a picture of yourself. I see no reasonable explanation”
