WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- A basement fire keeps crews busy in Wilkes-Barre.
Firefighters responded to the report of a working fire along Andover Street in the Diamond City around 10:00 Thursday morning. When they arrived, they found a small basement fire and had to open up the porch to fight the blaze. It was extinguished and the home owners were allowed back inside.
Firefighters say there was minor smoke and water damage. Crews say they have to take extra precautions when battling a blaze in the frigid cold.
“We are just glad that it didn’t turn out to be an actual fire with the weather conditions,” says Deputy Fire Chief Alan Klapat of the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department. “As you are aware, fighting fires in conditions such as this pose certain problems.”
A fire marshal was on scene trying to determine the cause. The home on the other side of the double-block was not damaged.
