Community replaces veteran’s stolen rocking chair

News

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It’s a happy ending to a sad story Eyewitness News first told you about in July.

Someone stole a brand new rocking chair from the front porch of Frank Makaravage, Sr.

The Wilkes-Barre man is a disabled Navy veteran, and he received the chair as a birthday gift from his family.

Reporter Kelly Choate’s original story tugged at the heartstrings of people across northeastern Pennsylvania.

Three people donated a total of $140 for the replacement.  None of them desired to be in the spotlight.  They just wanted to get this veteran rocking again.

“I can’t thank everyone enough,” said Makaravage, Sr.  “I love everyone and I’m so grateful.  God bless everyone!  You’re wonderful people!”

As for the thief who swiped the original chair, Makaravage, Sr. told Eyewitness News he’s praying for that person too.
