Community Helps Selinsgrove Woman See Daughter’s Wedding Day

Selinsgrove, Snyder County — Imagine waking up one morning and not being able to see clearly.  That’s what happened to a Selinsgrove woman who is coping with a rare disease that quickly stole her vision.

Joy Hoke said she thought about all of the small tasks that would soon become big challenges, but none of that mattered once Joy realized she wouldn’t be able to see her only daughter, Lauren, on her wedding day.

The Selinsgrove woman is now legally blind in both eyes, which forced her to leave behind a 30 year career at the YMCA in Sunbury.

High-tech glasses helped Joy see the love of her life, Dave, for the first time in months.

Thanks to an online fundraiser, Joy was able to raise $15,000 to buy the new technology, and she will be watching as Lauren says “I do”.

Joy is ordering the glasses Friday, and the package should arrive in about six weeks, leaving plenty of time for Joy to practice with the technology before Lauren’s wedding next May.
