LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) A Luzerne County family is demanding answers in the brutal murder of their loved one seven years ago.
Jonathan Balester, 56, was found slashed to death in May 2011 inside his home.
The killer is still at large.
The I-Team’s Andy Mehalshick has the story:
Balester’s sisters reached out to the I-team for help..they feel the case is ice cold and going nowhere..despite being told by detectives in the early days of the investigation that there was a suspect.
Speaking exclusively on camera for the first time since the murder – they are hopeful that putting the spotlight this case will generate information that could lead to an arrest.
“I mean when someone is murdered in such an especially horrible brutal fashion there’s never really true closure,” said Heather Balester, sister of murder victim.
The someone Heather Balester is talking about is her 56-year old brother Jonathan who was slashed to death inside his home on North Lehigh Street in Shavertown….at the time detectives called it one of the most vicious killings they had ever seen…
“We certainly have our speculations. We were told very early on that we should not talk about those to anybody outside and so far the family have not,” said Heather Balester.
But with the passage of seven years and still no arrest..the family tells me they feel like they have no other choice but to speak out.
“We do have a theory we do have a pretty good idea who may have been responsible and it’s all pretty ugly,” said Heather Balester.
Valerie Balester questions why they haven’t heard anything from investigators..
“I understand some evidence was collected that’s been sitting at a crime lab somewhere in Pennsylvania for ages. I had a detective look into that for me and that detective thought that evidence would solve a crime,” said Valerie Balester, sister of murder victim.
The investigation is still ongoing.
The family is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the killer.
