Coat drive for those in need in Luzerne County

News

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- On a chilly January day, it would be unimaginable to step outside without a jacket. But that is the reality for many people in the area.

So the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingston, Luzerne County is asking for your gently used coats to distribute to people who need them. It’s called the Have Two Coat Closet and it is open the first Friday and Saturday of every month from October to March.

This is the third year the closet has operated. This year, they’ve given away more than 300 coats to those in need.

The project is named after a Bible verse that encourages people to share.

“This is a two-sided ministry,” said Pastor Paul Metzloff. “It’s a ministry for both who have and a ministry for those who don’t at the moment.

And you don’t have to wait until the first month to grab a jacket. New this year, a coat rack that permanently stays outside so people can stop by anytime.
