UNION COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) A group of students and professors at Bucknell University have just launched a new fitness APP called ‘Ready Set Fit’. It’s designed for people who love history and culture as well as learning about their local community. Eyewitness News Reporter Morgan Parrish headed out to the campus to learn more.

“Ready, set, fit” available now in an APP store near you.

After being developed over almost three years, the APP is finally up and running for everyone to enjoy.

“It was interesting to try and find people on the other side of the college this engineering side who would be able to work with this.” Said Katie Faull, Professor of German and Humanities

The idea started as a collaborative project between Bucknell and Geisinger, with the hope of linking fitness with place based information.

It is a way people can get their exercise steps at the same time they’re learning about the environment.

“It’s great, it’s wonderful. From a professors point of view it’s very satisfying starting on a project when it was just an idea and then actually seeing it come to fruition.” Said Faull

“I’ve been really impressed by all of the students we’ve had on the project and all that they’ve provided.” Said Stu Thompson, Associate Professor of Electrical Computer Engineering.

Once you download the APP, all you have to do is choose a path and then a route will pop up with destinations along the way.

Stu Thompson is an Associate Professor of Electrical Computer Engineering and says this is by far the most successful APP he’s ever worked on.

“You’re not only getting fit, but you’re learning at the same time.”

“This seemed like something that would be really interesting to me.” added Jacob Mendelowitz, Computer Engineering Student.

Mendelowitz is one of the 14 students who have been working on the APP, and he says it’s been a rewarding experience seeing how humanities and technology can go hand in hand.

“You get lost and lost in technology and you never get to see what’s on the other side of what you’re creating and just being able to see that has been a super great part of this project.”

Now, there is only one thing left to, according Faull

“I think everyone should go out and download the APP!

‘Ready Set Fit’ is available for iphone users and Android users in the APP store or Google Play
