JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY(WBRE/WYOU-TV) – Early Sunday morning a body was pulled from a pond in Jefferson Township and State Police were on scene all day investigating the discovery.
“I went over there and I saw them pull the body out of the pond,” said Daniel Gilgallon of Jefferson Township.
Around 11 o’clock Sunday morning, State Police and rescue crews made their way to Oak Lane Avenue in Jefferson Township, after a body was found in a nearby pond.
“I was at work last night and my wife called me and she told me there was a lot of commotion going on last night around 3 o’clock in the morning,” said Gilgallon.
Lackawanna County Chief Deputy Coroner Jesse Van Deusen tells Eyewitness News the victim has been identified as 25 year old Shawn Venticinque of Moscow.
A baseball bat was also recovered from the scene, right across the street from the pond. Neighbors say it wasn’t there before the incident happened and state police took it with them for investigation.
“They’ve been asking a lot of questions trying to piece everything together what everybody seen, if anybody had any cameras or surveillance cameras,” said Gilgallon.
Daniel Gilgallon has lived here for at least 10 years.
“It was a little scary. Normally this kind of activity doesn’t go on here. Quiet neighborhood, quiet town,” said Gilgallon.
State Police are the lead investigators on this case.
