Blue Raider pride on display in Tamaqua

News

TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A community in Schuylkill County is coming together to support its undefeated football team!

The Tamaqua Area Blue Raiders are on a roll, winning eight straight games this season.

Take a drive through downtown Tamaqua and you’ll see a lot of blue.  From the fountain, to the storefronts, even the pumpkins have Blue Raider pride.

The latest fundraiser will line the streets of Tamaqua with about 70 blue and white flags.

Organizers collected more than $1,000 in less than two days!

“Every single time we do something in this community, someone reaches out,” said Justin Startzel, who manages the Tamaqua Blue Raider Football Facebook page.

It’s not all about the football players.  Cross country, soccer, tennis, and the band have all had success, which is why the flags will be flown throughout the year.

The extra money from the fundraiser will be used to put blue ribbons on the street lights in Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders are taking on the Jim Thorpe Olympians this Friday at 7 p.m.  Eyewitness News will have the highlights of that game on the Friday Night Sports Show.
