TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -There was an all-day event in Schuylkill County with one mission in mind: ways to stop cancer.
Taking a lap to show that cancer has not won, that’s what survivors, their loved ones and others who have been impacted by the disease were doing at the Tamaqua stadium yesterday.
People gathered for the annual block party on the hill.
There was some entertainment, raffles and vendors at the event put on by “relay for life”, aiming to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Aside from the fun, survivors shared their stories of triumph and lit up the stadium with a luminary service.
Last year, the all-day event rose about thirty-thousand-dollars.
Organizers hope to raise the same amount – or more -this year.
