Berwick Theater Celebrates Grand Reopening

News

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A movie theater in Columbia County is back in business after being closed for four months during renovations.

More than 100 people stood in line Friday night for the grand reopening of the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts.

This success is the result of three years of hard work.  It was back in July of 2013 that Eyewitness News talked to Lucille DiAugustine, not long after her husband Vincent passed away.

He owned the Berwick Theater for decades, and years earlier said he was more worried about giving the kids a place to go than turning a profit.

His dying wish was to keep the doors open.  Vincent’s granddaughter Renee told Eyewitness News back then she was determined to raise the money.

Flash forward three years, and it’s the grand reopening of the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts.  It has a new name, new seats, new sound system, and even a digital projector.

Renee credits the Columbia County community, especially the Berwick Area United Way, for turning this dream into a reality.

“Finding Dory” is playing at the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts on Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m.  The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are only $5 for all ages.
