BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Students at Berwick High School are bringing a tale as old as time to life with their production of Beauty and the Beast. But this tale is a little different than most. This is the school’s first ever musical production.
While many schools are cutting art programs and funding, Berwick is growing their musical program. And for many students performing, this production was something they’ve always dreamed of.
“It’s honestly an amazing experience,” said Jacob Yacuboski, who plays Gaston. “I’m so glad I got to do it this year. It’s kind of sad that this is my last year. I wish I could have been able to do it longer.”
A few weeks ago the students were still perfecting the show, then they added the lights and costumes. Now they’re ready to show the community what they’ve been missing.
“If you look at the kids that are on stage during this show, you’ll see why the arts are so important,” John Obringer, Musical Director, said. “They love being here. This is a big, important moment in their lives.”
If you’d like to see the show, it’s this Friday and Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.
