Benton Township Continues to Deal with Flooding

BENTON TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) Several counties are “hit especially hard” by the persistent rains.
Among those experiencing the biggest problems today — Columbia Columbia. Eyewitness News Reporter Morgan Parrish is in Benton Township with an update,.

Benton United Methodist Church is just one of many buildings that have been flooded out.
However here at the church, the Pastor tells Eyewitness News the basement actually began flooding Monday around 11 am.
Church members say however with this never-ending rain it’s only getting worse.
Right now two pumps are set up in the front and the back of the basement, to help get rid of the water.
However, church members say they’re more focused on helping their surrounding neighbors
“”This is a church and people had this happen in their homes and some people didn’t know where they sleeping last night and you put that in perspective and remember that these are buildings we can rebuild them and fix them,”  said Pastor Matthew Versteraeten

The pastor also told Eyewitness News that a food truck should be arriving shortly for community members that have also been affected by the flood to grab a bite to eat.
