HUGHESVILLE, LYCOMING COUNTY(WBRE/WYOU-TV) – With fingers crossed for good weather, a community in Lycoming County will have its eyes to the sky this weekend for a special one day event.
The 2018 balloonfest is almost ready to lift off.
It’s how you can be carried at a festival this weekend.
“It is a very unique first class event that is family friendly it’s affordable and there’s literally something for everyone,” said Event Chair, Sandy Spencer.
The 12th annual balloonfest in Hughesville will be something magical.
“It’s a big like taking a magic carpet ride and watching a soap bubble on the breeze kind of a combination of both those things,” said Balloon Meister, Rebecca Elkins.
With 12 hot air balloons coming in from all over the world…
“We’ve got some coming from Massachusetts New Hampshire several from New Jersey several from Pennsylvania one from New York,” said Elkins.
It’s no surprise that this event will most likely bring in about seven thousand people.
But, not only just for the hot air balloons.
“Sky divers, two different stunt pilots. ATV Drag races in the morning, bmx, puppets,” said Spencer.
Have I gotten your attention yet? Good. Because there will also be a 25 minute laser light show at the end of the day.
“To look around and to see the other people who are watching at the festival they just stand there in awe it’s really like seeing Christmas tree ornaments hanging in the sky,” said Elkins.
Organizers also tell me that each year the balloonfest continues to evolve with new attractions..and this year, they’re excited to announce a big one.
“We have a heavy equipment rodeo which is new to the event this year. That’s an idea that we kind of kicked around for years we have a great team of guys that have put it together,” said Spencer.
If you don’t have weekend plans, this is something you don’t want to miss out on.
“It’s our way to get involved in the community to offer something really special,” said Spencer.
