Back to School Means Boom in Business

News

Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County –  Many schools and universities are going back to school this week and that means a boom in business, especially for those smack dab in the middle of two colleges in Luzerne County.  As school resumes in the Wilkes-Barre area, businesses are booming as students from both Kings College and Wilkes University flood the city.

With school supplies to purchase and a new city to check out, people who work in the area say it’s go time.  Franklin’s Bar Manager Matthew Kovalski explains “this first week because they just came back from school.  They started Monday, so we were ready last weekend and we are ready for this whole weekend too and once it starts it never stops until the end of the school year.”  Lelmel Sumpter, is the Dunkin Donuts Manager and says “it’s been non-stop, line after line, but we have to make the customers happy and that’s what counts.”

Many of the students from out-of-town who stopped to chat with Eyewitness News are intrigued by the Diamond City and already exploring what the downtown area has to offer and putting money into the local economy.
