STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Calling all artists! You have the opportunity to show off your skills and have them permanently displayed in the Poconos.
It’s just another blank wall. Or, more like a blank canvas.
The Pocono Arts Council wants artists of all backgrounds and experiences to submit ideas to turn a gray wall into a vibrant mural. It’s located on the side of Cure Cafe in downtown Stroudsburg.
“Some of the artists here are really high-end and accomplished, and we’d love to see some of their works,” says Jody Singer, Pocono Arts Council.
The building owner is requesting a ‘music’ theme. We found people who would like to see…
“Classical, classical, and more classical,” laughs John Burrus of Brodheadsville.
“Treble clef, base clef, notes, there’s some beauty to that,” adds Alan Shaffer of East Stroudsburg.
There’s many creative murals throughout East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg, including ‘musical bugs’ along Ann Street.
In 2014, local artists and business owners started working together to bring permanent murals to town.
Singer explains, “it’s created a lot of awareness of our town, a lot of awareness of the businesses that are here.”
The winning artist of this latest project will receive donated materials, plus $500 dollars. Businesses within the building will fund the prize money.
“It’s not just a big wall, it’s a very visible wall. So once you’re coming down Main Street, that’s what you see,” says Svetlana Conques, All Pocono Rentals.
Painting positivity in the community.
Murals are protected with an anti-graffiti coating.
The proposal deadline for artists is midnight on June 15th, 2018. Artist selection and notification will happen the week of June 18, 2018. Painting begins July 1, 2018; and the painting finish deadline is August 30, 2018. http://poconoarts.org/
