PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Search teams were out in full force Saturday in Luzerne County. Police are searching for a suspect involved in an armed robbery that happened Saturday morning.
“You hope it’s never in our neighborhood but here it’s here but I mean you never know. You tell the guy no and you get shot,” Red’s Service Center & Towing owner Robert Zbierski said.
Early Saturday morning, police were dispatched to Ryder Truck Rental in Plains Township for reports of an armed robbery.
“From what I understand, he had the door locked but the guy asked him questions about tires or whatever he needed and when he opened the door, that’s when he said he showed him the gun,” Zbierski said.
“I’m very surprised because this road isn’t a main road, it’s not used that much except for truckers and our family project here so for there to be an armed robbery that close is kind of scary,” Plains Township resident Denise Reichart said.
State troopers and Wilkes-Barre police assisted Plains Township police as they searched the forested area behind the business. A helicopter was also used as surveillance. Police say they believe the suspect to be armed and dangerous.
“Oh my goodness I hope they catch whoever did it for the sake of the person there so they know who it was and the sake of the people here. There’s a lot of places out here behind the back of us so lets hope they catch him,” Reichart said.
Neighbors say he could’ve ran anywhere from the woods to down the street to Mohean Sun Pocono where he could be hiding out in the casino.
“I think that’s where someone would go even though there are a lot of cameras there. You can get in there and get out and just sneak in with that crowd,” Reichart said.
Neighbors say this urges them to take extra precaution.
“Maybe I should buy a gun. I never shot one in my life so I wouldn’t know so maybe I should have one,” Zbierski said.
