SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) Looking for some place to take the kids — Scranton has a new attraction tonight featuring animals from both land and sea! Eyewitness News Reporter Eric Deabill gives us a tour
There are plenty of fish in the sea and now you can see many of them in Scranton as the Electric City Aquarium and Reptile Den opened its doors.
“As a stay-at-home mom, I’m always looking for indoor attractions and I couldn’t have asked for anything better” said Calli Patitsas of Drums,
From alligators to turtles…. to catfish and octopus….there are hundreds of things for kids of all ages to check out.
“We have sharks from around the world. We have freshwater fish from the Amazon, from Asia, from a lot of different areas” said Gary Walker, Director, Electric City Aquarium & Reptile Den
On opening day, the first visitors seemed impressed.
“Finally you don’t have to go somewhere else to see a show, to have the children do something” added Elaine Stanton, Scranton.
“I’ve been to many huge aquariums and all of the exhibits I’ve seen so far are just as good as anything I’ve seen in the big cities,” said Jane Frye, Scranton,
“One of the most popular parts of this new facility is this touch tank where you can actually get your hands wet and feel what it’s like to touch a stingray”
The best critics, of course, are kids.
Many had their eyes light up as they looked into the fish tanks — some even getting to pet some of the creatures….and they loved it!
Admission for adults is 19.00
Kids between the ages of two and twelve are $16.00.
The aquarium is now open seven days a week until 6:00 pm
