The American Rescue Workers: they’re people helping people, and they’re giving homeless men and women a second chance at life.

As Mike Kane, who works for the organization, told Eyewitness News, “Our job is to tell someone who’s been told their whole life that they’re worthless, that you don’t have value in this world: No! You are valuable! You do have worth.”

One of those people is Jeffrey McBride. He came to the American Rescue Workers’ Williamsport shelter after facing his problem with addiction.

“I walked upstairs,” Jeffrey said, “I saw Mike and shook his hand and said ‘I’m here. I’m ready to start my life over.'”

Along with living at the shelter, Jeffrey is also a cook in the building’s kitchen. If all goes well, that kitchen will be getting a renovation soon. That’s where American Rescue Workers needs your help!

The organization’s revenue comes from donations and thrift store sales, and in order to bring this kitchen up to speed, they’ll need more of each. They have stores all over Pennsylvania  where you can shop, as well as donate.

When it comes down to it, the more efficient the kitchen, the more lives they’ll be able to change. If you can’t make it out to one of the organization’s thrift stores, you can donate right here
