WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Early Thursday morning, aerial footage aired live on Eyewitness News showed the full extent of the damage at a major shopping hub in Wilkes-Barre Township. Severe weather tore through the Arena Hub Plaza Wednesday night around 9:30.
Cars are flipped, windows are blown out, and some businesses are destroyed.
First responders say six people suffered minor injuries and no fatalities are reported. At least 14 fire departments, 12 EMS units, and seven police departments responded.
National Weather Service officials from Binghamton will be on scene today to investigate if a tornado touched down.
As of Thursday morning, the area around Highland Park Boulevard and Bear Creek Boulevard are closed to traffic.
