Adam Rippon Interview


Olympic bronze medalist Adam Rippon has stolen the nation’s hearts while competing on the world stage.
Rippon emerged as a fan favorite in Pyeongchang with his graceful ice skating routines, his honesty and sassy tweets, but even with the worldwide attention, he is still true to his hometown.
Eyewitness News reporter Lauren Hensley got to speak with this super-star athlete.
Olympic athlete and Clarks Summit native Adam Rippon– has been called “America’s sweetheart” after becoming a fan-favorite during the 2018 Pyeongchang winter Olympic games. But– we knew him first!
Team USA figure skater Adam Rippon says he’s a Pennsylvania kid at heart.
“I will never forget my roots. I am absolutely Pennsylvania’s sweetheart, first and foremost,” said Rippon.
A 12-year-old Adam Rippon said …
“When i was a young kid and started skating in Pittston, I always dreamed of going to the olympics.”
Sixteen years later…. that dream became a reality….
“…and now, to be here, at the Olympic games, to be wearing a medal is – it’s been incredible,” said Rippon.
His skills helped him win bronze in the team even but it’s his personality that’ won the nation over.
“I’ve had such an outpour of so many people reaching out to me and sharing their stories. During this whole Olympic experience I’ve been totally honest and genuine and totally myself.I’ve wanted to represent my country to the best of my abilities and i feel i was able to do that and also represent NEPA,” said Rippon.
Even though he’s thousands of miles away he is still craving the comforts of home
“I’ve always got to get my Colarusso’s Pizza,” said Rippon.  
At 28 years old.. he is one of the oldest Olympic athletes to compete….
So what’s next for this superstar?
“I feel like i have a lot of big things coming up next,”  said Rippon.
And if he’s ready to hang up his skates he could always consider a career in TV after all he already looks good in the gear.
