Across the Commonwealth: Simple Phrase Divides Community

News
Coronavirus

(WBRE/WYOU-TV) A simple phrase is dividing a Delaware County Community.

Until recently it was a tradition for the principal at Sabold Elementary School in Springfield to say God Bless America over the school speakers after leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

But after a parent complained to a Religion Watch Dog group.  Lawyers got involved — and the school district decided God Bless America can no longer be said over the PA system.

People on both sides are speaking out.

However, the argument of whether it’s a First Amendment Issue or a case of religious expression being trampled on continues.
